Short Break Canal Holidays

Short break canal holidays are getting more and more popular. They are a great way to get a few days away from the grind, enjoy the fresh country air, do something a bit more physical, enjoy the company of your friends or family. No need to do lots of planning, organise cover, queue at the airport, just pack a bag and get on your boat!

Short break canal holidays are also a great way to get a taste for a longer canal boat holiday. You may be unsure about how all the family would enjoy a full week's canal boat hire, you may feel you want to get a little practice steering a canal boat or working those locks before embarking on a longer trip; a short break is the ideal way to get a taste. You won't go all that far in just three or four days, but that means you won't have far to come back either, so you'll have plenty of time to relax, enjoy your surroundings and develop your boating skills.

Marine Cruises offer two choices of short break canal holidays. On a midweek break you start on a Tuesday afternoon and bring the boat back on Saturday morning. So you get four nights afloat. On a weekend break you start on a Saturday morning and bring the boat back on Tuesday morning. You get three nights afloat, and only miss one or two days work.

Our three bases are perfectly situated for short break narrowboat hire holidays. All are close to wonderful scenery and interesting things to see.

On a short break canal holiday from our Llangollen Canal base you can take a leisurely trip up to the market town of Whitchurch, or if you have time on towards Ellesmere and the Shropshire Lake district passed the strange Whixhall and Fenns Bank mosses. Or head in the opposite direction and spend a little time down on the peaceful Shropshire Union Canal visiting the interesting market town of Nantwich.

There are some great short break canal holiday routes for our Kings Bromley Marina base. Head north up the Trent and Mersey Canal towards the old canal towns of Stone and Great Haywood. Or south towards Burton on Trent with its fascinating Brewery Museum, perhaps on towards Shardlow. Or take the Coventry Canal from Fradley towards the fine Warwickshire market town of Atherstone.

A short break canal holiday from our Falkirk base will let you experience the magnificent Falkirk Wheel towards historic Linlithgow, or head west towards Glasgow through the wonderful scenery around Kirkentilloch.
